So it’s school holidays and Easter is over and done with. Are you sick of the kids making a mess around the house or constantly asking “What can I do?”
To escape the house for a couple of hours, a trip to the movies is a tried and true activity. But what movie should you go see? What’s even on at the moment?
Lucky for you, I’ve researched all the kid friendly movies on at the moment so you don’t have to!
These movies suit the younger kids, generally primary school age. Take them along and hopefully the movie is entertaining enough
In The Pirates! Band of Misfits, Hugh Grant stars in his first animated role as the luxuriantly bearded Pirate Captain – a boundlessly enthusiastic, if somewhat less-than-successful, terror of the High Seas. With a rag-tag crew at his side (Martin Freeman, Brendan Gleeson, Russell Tovey, and Ashley Jensen), and seemingly blind to the impossible odds stacked against him, the Captain has one dream: to beat his bitter rivals Black Bellamy (Jeremy Piven) and Cutlass Liz (Salma Hayek) to the much coveted Pirate Of The Year Award. It’s a quest that takes our heroes from the shores of exotic Blood Island to the foggy streets of Victorian London. Along the way they battle a diabolical queen (Imelda Staunton) and team up with a haplessly smitten young scientist (David Tennant), but never lose sight of what a pirate loves best: adventure!
The 3D-CGI feature Dr. Seuss The Lorax is an adaptation of Dr. Seuss classic tale of a forest creature who shares the enduring power of hope. The animated adventure follows the journey of a boy as he searches for the one thing that will enable him to win the affection of the girl of his dreams. To find it he must discover the story of the Lorax, the grumpy yet charming creature who fights to protect his world.
Ok, so most of us aren’t going to go sit in the cinema with our teens. But the following movies are aimed at your teen, and are a suitable option for kids 12-16.
Katniss Everdeen, 16, lives in what remains of North America in the future. She lives in one of 12 districts, all run by the Capitol. When her father dies, she struggles to keep herself, her mother and her little sister alive. Even though she learns to hunt and trap and which plants are edible, they’re always on the point of starvation.
Annually, one boy and one girl between the ages of 12 and 18 are chosen by lottery from each district to participate in the televised Hunger Games, in which the 24 children try to kill each other. The last one left alive is honoured by the Capitol and his or her family is rewarded with plenty of food.
When her little sister’s name is drawn, Katniss steps up to take her place in the competition. Based on the first novel of Suzanne Collins’ bestselling “The Hunger Games” trilogy.
The classic Disney story is brought back to life on the big screen. Snow White (Lily Collins) and the seven dwarfs go up against the Evil Queen (Julia Roberts) to reclaim their destroyed kingdom.
